Permeability - The Seeping Saviour Of Quality Control

Water vapour permeating into places it shouldn't be has caused missiles to crash, machines to jam, drugs to lose effectiveness, electronics to short-circuit …. Not to mention rust and corrosion.  It costs billions of pounds every year and can be a major headache for quality controllers as, traditionally, it takes weeks to check a single sample.

Technology leader Versaperm has developed and introduced a range of Permeability Meters for both quality control and product development. It allows permeability to be measured in around half an hour for some samples and usually gives accuracies in the PPM (Parts per Million) range –PPB (Billion) in some cases.

A range of options is available including single and multi-sample systems, temperature control and measurement not just of water vapour's permeability but also for almost all gases – including, hydrogen, oxygen, CO2, solvents and hydrocarbons.

The equipment can measure the permeability of material samples as well as finished products, components and packaging. Samples can vary in size from a thimble to a pallet load.

Versaperm's new permeability instrument range is highly automated and simple to use, it requires little or no training to produce consistent and accurate results.  The company also operates a laboratory service for companies where the volume or logistics of measurements does not demand a dedicated instrument.
